 Talent.com, a recruiting platform in Canada, embarked on a study to show how important it is to people living in Canada to improve their work-life balance. According to Canadian Visa Professionals, this study reveals that most Canadian workers think a four-day workweek will greatly improve their work-life balance.

Most people surveyed under the study said they would want to try a 4-day work week. However, they raised concerns regarding the potential average hours and the possibility of taking a pay cut to experience a 4-day work week.

Canadian Visa Professionals could confirm that about 93 percent of the study’s respondents are interested in a 4-day workweek model. And 57 percent of Canadians would likely place a 4-day work week as the number one benefit a company can offer them.

Similarly, about 50 percent said they prefer to work only for an average of 36 hours a week. These individuals are unwilling to work 10-hour shifts for four days, the standard 40 hours per week. Some emphasized that they are willing to keep the 8-hour daily shift for four days and get a 3-day weekend. 

Of all the respondents, only 8 percent are ready to go as high as 40 hours a week

Canadian Visa Professionals reported that the kind hearts and supportive spirits of Montrealers was revealed recently when a local resident’s dog was missing.

While informing the media about his missing dog, Ryan Muscott kept fighting back his tears. He explained that the lost dog was there for him when his dad passed away.

After the news of the missing dog became known, a search party was organized in the Montreal suburb of Kirkland, where the owner resides. The nine-year-old pet that went missing Saturday morning was found early Monday morning. The dog was found due to the community’s efforts in searching and publicizing the news, as the person who found the dog had seen the post about the Muscott’s missing dog on social media.

Muscott Reunited with his Dog

The person who found the missing dog called Muscott as early as 6:30 a.m. The person explained to the owner that he found a dog that matched the post circulating on the internet.

The owner was excited at the news and, in no time, was reunited with the animal. This story shows Canadians’ unmatched and supportive nature, said Canadian Visa Professionals.

Despite spending about 48 hours in the freezing weather, Muscott’s dog, Peetah, became alert after eating some food. The owner explained that the dog staying active and warm throughout the two days of missing could be because it was a Husky Labrador mix.

The local resident of Montreal couldn’t thank Montrealers enough. He expressed his gratitude to the community for their concern. Muscott also couldn’t help but thank them for setting up a search party, sharing his posts and looking for the dog.

In 2017, artist Chrystal Phan worked at the Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria. During this time, she detected something that got her disappointed. She stated that her disappointment came when she realized that her fellow Vietnamese-Canadians were not represented in the museum’s exhibit on families that year.

Last year, Phan decided to do a solo exhibit of her own. She did this with the hope that it would help the public understand her community better. 

In 2020, Phan received a Canada Council for the Arts grant to create six large-scale oil paintings. Currently, the paintings are displayed at the Chapel Gallery in St. Matthias Anglican Church. 

Owing to the support Canada gives immigrants, Canadian Visa Professionals stated that newcomers can enjoy a home away from home experience in the country.

The Story Behind the Vietnamese-Canadian Exhibit

Chrystal Phan was born in Victoria to refuge parents. Her parents came to Canada in 1980 after fleeing Sóc Trăng in southern Vietnam.

40-year-old Phan said she became aware of the challenges Vietnamese newcomers face around integrating when she visited the Family: Bonds and Belonging exhibit at the Royal B.C. Museum. At the time, she was a major gifts manager at the museum. 

She stated that she noticed her family wasn’t part of the exhibit while she was walking through it. When she noticed, she asked the head curator of the exhibit about what could have happened. The curator responded that most of the artifacts were donated, and they didn’t get any connection to Vietnamese communities. This factor was, thus, the reason for no Vietnamese printing in the exhibit, Canadian Visa Professionals noted.

One Painting in the Vietnamese-Canadian Exhibit

One of Phan’s paintings in the exhibit was Camping. The painting shows a Vietnamese-Canadian family using chopsticks to barbeque around a pit. A curator, Nicky Rendell, stated that the work of art was delightful.

The continuing labour shortage in Canada has resulted in an increase in wages for many workers. While there is hope that the talent shortage will ease shortly, employers across the country are projecting future salary bumps into their budgets.

According to a survey of over 17,000 businesses across the country, 45% of the businesses expect to increase wages by an average of 8.1%. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce carried out this survey earlier this year.

Based on the ongoing worker shortage, Canadian Visa Professionals reported that immigrants can more easily secure valuable jobs in Canada.

Companies in Canada and Employees' Salaries

Employers are doing all they can to attract employees as there are many available jobs in Canada’s labour market, but a low number of people to do them. 

The baseline salaries for employees at ElissDon, a Mississauga-based construction firm, have increased greatly in the past year to match inflation. Despite the raise in salary presently, the company is projecting a similar increase in 2023.

The company’s vice president for people and culture, Paul Trudel, stated that the rise in baseline salaries prevented existing employees from leaving the company for other employers.

From a survey, the average per capita pay in the year’s first six months had increased by 4%. Canadian Visa Professionals stated that the sectors with the biggest increases are manufacturing, life sciences and tech firms.

Budgets of Canadian Employers in 2023

According to a report by Mercer, a global consulting and data analytics firm, employers in Canada had budgeted 3.4% for merit-based salaries and 3.9% for total compensation increases for their budgets next year.
