Canada’s Population Rises to Record 40 Million Residents

Canada’s population has reached a new milestone of 40 million residents. According to Canadian Visa Professionals, the immigration policy by the government has helped boost Canada’s population over the last decade.

It came as a big surprise how fast it was for Canada’s population to reach her new 40-million milestone.

A report from Statistics Canada says that Canada welcomed more than 1.1 million people in 2022 alone, including about 430,000 new permanent residents.

According to Canadian Visa Professionals, about 1.1 million people came to Canada as permanent or temporary immigrants between January and December 2022. It is the first year Canada’s population will grow by more than a million people in a 12-month period.
Judging by the report from Statistics Canada, 95.9 percent of the population growth experienced within the last 12-months came from international migration.
The r eport also specified that Canada’s population could hit 50 million in two decades if the current immigration levels are maintained.

Impact of increased population on Canada’s economy

An expert from Canadian Visa Professionals says there is a huge relationship between immigration and population growth. For a country like Canada, immigration helps to strengthen the labor force by bringing skilled professionals to the country to increase the working population.

Michael Donnelly, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, also commented on the importance of immigration to Canada’s population.

Talent.com, a recruiting platform in Canada, embarked on a study to show how important it is to people living in Canada to improve their work-life balance. According to Canadian Visa Professionals, this study reveals that most Canadian workers think a four-day workweek will greatly improve their work-life balance.

Most people surveyed under the study said they would want to try a 4-day work week. However, they raised concerns regarding the potential average hours and the possibility of taking a pay cut to experience a 4-day work week.

Statistics showing how workers in Canada will likely want to work in a 4-day workweek

Canadian Visa Professionals could confirm that about 93 percent of the study’s respondents are interested in a 4-day workweek model. And 57 percent of Canadians would likely place a 4-day work week as the number one benefit a company can offer them.

Similarly, about 50 percent said they prefer to work only for an average of 36 hours a week. These individuals are unwilling to work 10-hour shifts for four days, the standard 40 hours per week. Some emphasized that they are willing to keep the 8-hour daily shift for four days and get a 3-day weekend.

“Though leaving Turkey at the time meant leaving my friends and family behind, it was an exciting and frightening experience that greatly shaped me when I moved here at 41. I had to learn, unlearn and relearn so many things when I got here,” says Akmel.

She continued, “It was like I was literarily starting from scratch. The laws here in Canada are different, society is different, and how to do things are different. When I left Turkey, I was in search of peace and stability. Now settling in Prince Edward Island has granted me all.”

Moving to Canada at that age takes grit and some high-level courage, commented an expert from Canadian Visa Professionals. But it paid off now that she is settled in P.E.I.

The Canadian government is planning to increase Francophone immigration. The government believes this move will help the country with its French language capabilities. This plan will also help to protect the cultural identity of Canada, noted Canadian Visa Professionals.

This new policy was presented in an action plan for official languages that is to span five years.

Plans to Recruit More French-Speaking Educators in Canada

Canada is currently aiming to recruit more French-speaking immigrants. This is due to the labor force shortage for bilingual employees in the country. These Francophone newcomers will come from countries in Africa and the Middle East, according to Canadian Visa Professionals.

Upon entering the country, they will settle in Canadian minority communities, excluding Quebec. Quebec is excluded from this plan because it exercises control over its own provincial immigration program.

City in Ontario Ranked #1 for Students in 2023

A report recently highlighted the best student cities in Canada. From the report, Kingston, Ontario, is ranked the best; after this city is Montreal and Vancouver.

The 2023 study by HelloSAFE, a finance company, rated the cities based on various factors. The considerations for the ranking include the cost of studying, quality of student life, academic excellence, etc.

Canadian Visa Professionals reported that the HelloSAFE team ranked 47 cities across Canada. The cities were compared based on four categories, later divided into subcategories.

The winner of each category got 50 points and the final score was marked out of 200. Similar rankings of student cities in European countries inspired this methodology for ranking, said HelloSAFE.

The Ranking of Best School Cities in Canada

Out of 200 points, Kingston earned 152 points. With this, the city in Ontario province took the top spot from Sherbrooke, Quebec. Sherbrooke took fourth in this year’s ranking. Montreal was second with 144 points, while Vancouver came in third with 143 points.

Regarding academic excellence, Montreal was ranked the best city for students. Vancouver was consistently ranked fourth in the student life, excellence and attractiveness categories.

Immigrant from Japan Says She Feels More Free in Canada

Altogether, 76% of all Japanese immigrants in Canada over the last two decades are women. Yuka Yamamoto Woods is one of the almost 14,000 women Japanese immigrants in Canada. The woman who arrived in Vancouver in 2006 said she feels freer living in Canada.

Canadian Visa Professionals reported that she first came to Canada on a working holiday, but became a permanent resident after some years. According to Yamamoto Woods, being a working mom in Canada is easier than in her home country, Japan. She added that most of her co-workers are mothers.

Yuka Yamamoto Woods described her ordeal back in Japan. As a child, she had always loved travelling, so at 19, she began her dream career as a ground staff member with an airline in Tokyo.

After about four years of long work hours, it dawned on her that becoming a mother while working would be unlikely. Being promoted also seemed like an impossible thing, reported Canadian Visa Professionals.

Yamamoto Woods came to this conclusion when she realized that most of the managers at her Tokyo airport were male. At the same time, most women on the job quit once they got pregnant. All these proved to her the extent of gender inequality in her home country.
